Hannah Sugarman, PhD

Dr. Hannah Sugarman is a licensed psychologist and a licensed psychology associate in Washington, DC. She specializes in providing engaging, empathetic, evidence-based evaluations and treatment that address a child’s needs both at home and at school. Her clinical work focuses on anxiety, mood disorders, oppositional behaviors, trauma, and parent coaching.
Dr. Sugarman routinely conducts comprehensive psychological assessments related to autism, ADHD, educational needs, and mood and behavioral challenges. With an extensive background working in school settings, she brings a strong understanding of the whole child and the factors that support success across both academic and home environments.
In addition to her work at Maven Psychology Group, Dr. Sugarman currently serves as a School Psychologist with Fairfax County Public Schools, where she works closely with youth and families and brings deep insight into how traumatic experiences can affect a child’s ability to thrive in school.
Dr. Sugarman earned her doctorate in School Psychology from Fordham University and completed an APA-accredited internship through the Hawaii Psychological Internship Consortium. Her training includes experience in a residential treatment program at MercyFirst, a supervisory role at the Rosa Hagin Consultation Center at Fordham University, and a clinical practicum with Farmingdale Public Schools. She has been trained in evidence-based treatment protocols, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
Her doctoral research explored the experiences of adolescents disclosing their gender identity. Dr. Sugarman has a particular passion for supporting LGBTQ-identifying youth and their families.
